Keeping Your Wall Water Fountain Clean

Proper care and regular upkeep are important to the longevity of water fountains. Leaves, twigs, and bugs often find their way into fountains, so it is vital to keep yours free from such things. Also, algae tends to build up wherever natural light meets water. To avoid this, take vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, or sea salt and add right into the water. Bleach can also be put into the water, but this is not an ideal option because it can hurt birds or other animals.

A complete cleaning every three-four months is ideal for garden fountains. Prior to cleaning, all the water must be taken out. Then use gentle and a soft sponge to clean the innner part of the reservoir. Feel free to use a toothbrush if necessary for any smaller crevasses. Any soap residue that remains on your fountain can damage it, so be sure it is all rinsed off.

Calcium and fresh water organisms could get (learn this here now) inside the pump, so you should disassemble it to get it truly clean. Letting it soak in vinegar for several hours first will make it much easier to clean. Build-up can be a big hassle, so use mineral or rain water over tap water, when possible, to prevent this dilemma.

Finally, be sure to have a quick look at your fountain daily and add water if you notice that the level is low. If the water level falls below the pump’s intake level, it can hurt the pump and cause it to burn out - something you don't want to happen!
